Awakenings ~ Accessing the Beauty of Soul
As we sit in meditation during this Season for Nonviolence, let us envision a grid of Unconditional Love encircling our Globe, supporting all those individuals and organizations working to make nonviolence our planet’s operating principle.
Let me tell you a story….
One day I sat down to meditate, to send a vision of hope and support to a friend who was experiencing great confusion in his life. I thought that I was sending him a gift, but instead, it was I who received the gift. For my meditation was interrupted and I was given the grace to see and experience his Soul, his core essence of being. It was an extraordinary moment I will not soon forget, and for which words are wholly inadequate to describe.
I saw a ball of a very bright core of light radiating from his being, strong and powerful, yet softly beautiful. The vision was beauty personified, and it took my breath away. In fact, I was at a loss for words and my brain seemed to take a vacation, but what I did know was that the feeling, the experience of such great beauty was so powerful, that I wanted to spend the rest of time in the presence of this Great Soul. The vision, the knowing, only lasted a few seconds, but its legacy is forever.
For in that moment, I awakened more fully to the beauty of Soul, and understanding flooded my awareness – I understood that the most perfect thing I could do for my friend and indeed for any one of us, is to hold the vision that we are each able to access and experience the beauty and wisdom of our own souls, our own essence of being. Any other vision or prayer pales in comparison to this, for within each soul resides all that we need, all the love, all the authentic power, all the wisdom, all the clarity of thought.
When we access the beauty of our soul, our inner jewel of wisdom,
right thinking and right action are natural consequences,
and it then becomes easy to experience
and express nonviolence
with its healing attributes of love, compassion and truth.
As we join our hearts together, know that powerful beacons of Light and Love will shine forth into the world, will join those from others of like intent, and be directed to those in greatest need on our beloved planet.
As we each prepare for the moment, let the mood be one of unconditional love…
…and May the Force be with us! J
Please light your candles (optional) and commence with the following peace poem:
Dear God, Great Spirit,
May we awaken to the precious jewel within us
That allows us to express the highest human attributes
Of love, understanding, compassion, forgiveness and peaceful pursuits.
May we be able to access our inner wisdom if only for a fleeting moment
And, recognizing the power that resides there, may we embark
On a journey of inner discovery that will assist us
In living more fulfilling, more powerful,
And more exciting lives
Than we have yet
May we fall in love with the beauty of our Selves!
After this introductory vision/meditation/prayer, please express your own vision of peace. (As always, please feel free to modify the peace poem, or to use your own.)
~ Celebrating Great Souls Becoming ~
Please close your peace session with the extinguishing of the candle.
This Peace Circle was inspired by a vision I experienced of my friend Mike whom I met at the green grocer. This is the first in the series of ‘A Season for Non Violence 2004’ Peace Circles.
The SNV2004 Peace Circle series was inspired by the annual Season for Non Violence (January 30 – April 4), an international campaign ‘dedicated to demonstrating that nonviolence is a powerful way to heal, transform and empower our lives and our communities’. This campaign was inaugurated in 1998 by the M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence to honour the 50th and 30th memorial anniversaries of Mohandas K. Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Institute was founded by Mahatma Ghandi’s grandson Arun Gandhi and his wife Sunanda.
The vision of the SNV campaign is now being carried by The Association for Global New Thought, an organization that embraces the vision of planetary transformation (reflecting the unity of all life) based on a Universal Spirituality that ‘reflects the core teachings of [all] the world’s great spiritual traditions’. http://www.agnt.org/snv02.htm
‘So, freeing that human spirit,
unleashing that voice of woman in myself
was where it began, and almost surprisingly, paradoxically,
this thing that I thought would make me unattractive, make me too aggressive,
make me too bold, was really where I found courage, where I found the depth
of my own magnificence, where I found what real beauty is all about, and
I urge women to find that in themselves, not because it will make them happier,
and it will, not because it will make them more effective, and it will,
but because the world is dying for that voice, the world must have it
and now is the time, this is the time, this is the century,
these are the issuesV that are calling for it’.
