The Path of Peace
Gently get into a quiet, meditative Soul Space of healing power.
Our greatest challenge as human beings is to maintain compassion and love in the face of violence, especially when our immediate instinct is to retaliate similarly. This is the challenge we face in the aftermath of the World Trade Center and Pentagon tragedies, and it requires us to find within ourselves a way to express the finest and highest of human attributes. This challenge, difficult though it may be, presents us with an opportunity to seek a different way of being as individuals and as a global community.
And so we have before us in this pivotal moment, an extraordinarily important choice – the choice to express wisdom, compassion and love, or hate, revenge and fear. We all know where the choice of revenge and violence will take us, for human history has been an excellent teacher. Our most recent lesson was the attack on the Pentagon and the twin towers of the World Trade Center; someone chose the path of violence and created inexpressibly intense pain, anguish, anger, fear and suffering whose ripples are still being manifested in the US and around the world.
We human beings share many things in common regardless of culture or country. We all want the freedom and the right to live our lives as we chose. We all want our children to be safe and healthy. We all want to be able to express our individual creativity and to go about the daily business of living without being harmed. …And we all want peace. Unfortunately, too often we have allowed our fear to galvanize us to violence and war (the very things we don’t want for ourselves) as a means of securing and assuring a peaceful life. It is time for the world to stand together as one and chose a different path – the path of wisdom, compassion and unconditional love – the path of peace.
We focus the light of our love on all peoples of the world, that we may all become aware that a choice has been presented and that we may have the strength to chose personal and global peace.
As we join our hearts together, know that powerful beacons of Light and Love will shine forth into the world, will join those from others of like intent, and be directed to those in greatest need on our beloved planet.
As we each prepare for the moment, let the mood be one of unconditional love…
…and May the Force be with us! J
Please light your candles (optional) and commence with the following peace poem:
Tonight we join with all peoples of the world to hold a vision of global peace,
And to send powerful waves of Love to all those in need on this planet.
We hold in the arms of Love, those that have lost loved ones.
We pray that they may be able to experience their grief fully
And that they may eventually be able to come to peace.
We hold in the arms of Love the members of world governments,
especially the US government.
We pray that they may find the strength and the courage
To break the cycle of violence and respond to this tragedy with powerful means
That will set the stage for a world committed to peace.
We hold in the arms of Love all those who have chosen violence as a way of being,
especially those who have expressed their pain and fear in the attack
on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
We pray that as they are embraced by the waves of our Love,
They may come to understand that there is another choice – the choice of the heart.
May we all awaken to the choice of expressing wisdom, compassion
and unconditional love
May we all find the courage and the creativity to devise and implement non violent means of addressing the frictions of cohabitation on planet earth,
And may peace prevail throughout our world.
Aum and Amen.
After this introductory vision/meditation/prayer, please express your own vision of peace. (As always, please feel free to modify the peace poem, or to use your own.)
Please close your peace session with the extinguishing of the candle.
