Tending To Our Children
Gently get into a quiet, meditative Soul Space of healing power.
Change is in the air. The potential for making bold and sustainable strides towards providing the world’s children with safe environments and the right to self fulfillment, is high. The men, women and children meeting from 8 – 10 May, 2002 at the UN Special Session on Children in New York embody that potential. The two children who will address the UN General Assembly in New York embody that potential. And the children who participated in the Youth Summit at the World Conference against Racism on 26-27 August, 2001 in Durban, South Africa embody that potential.
The delegates to the Special Session will bring to the table all of their experiential wisdom as well as all of their foibles, fears, and personal and cultural biases that limit their expression as a human being. However all will bring to the table the capacity to rise above their personality limitations, the capacity to act with wisdom and courage, and the capacity to act compassionately from their hearts.
Tonight we focus the light of our Love on these delegates, and support their capacity to put aside foibles and fears, and expand beyond personal limitation and personal gain to serve the greater good of the world’s children.
As we join our hearts together, know that powerful beacons of Light and Love will shine forth into the world, will join those from others of like intent, and be directed to those in greatest need on our beloved planet.
As we each prepare for the moment, let the mood be one of unconditional love…
…and May the Force be with us! J
Please light your candles (optional) and commence with the following peace poem:
Dear God, Great Spirit
We are gathered tonight to hold a Sacred Space of Universal Love and support
For the delegates and participants of the UN Special Session on Children.
We pray that every child, every woman and every man there
Is able to release personality agendas and fears,
Is able to harness their innate wisdom and their unlimited reservoir of courage
And act from a compassionate heart for the highest good of all our children.
Let love and courage reign supreme for the duration of the week
A constant and powerful force that will allow the children to speak their truth
And the adults to listen and act effectively.
Let the children be heard
And let the winds of change that allowed two world leaders
to declare ‘We all constitute one human family’
Be ever present.
Aum and Amen.
After this introductory vision/meditation/prayer, please express your own vision of peace. (As always, please feel free to modify the peace poem, or to use your own.)
Please close your peace session with the extinguishing of the candle.
· Our Peace Circle coincides with the start of The Children’s Forum (5 – 7 May, 2002), one of the Side Events of the UN Special Session on Children.
“The Forum will also select two children to present its outcome to the plenary of the Special Session. It will be the first time in the history of the UN that children have addressed the General Assembly.” – Excerpt from the UN Web page on the Special Session on Children.
